My Thoughts on the 2024 Presidential Election

In 2016, when I voted for the first time, I had a similar choice - Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump.
It was a simple decision then, for the same reasons it is today.
Regardless of party affiliation, it was, and is still clear that on one side of the aisle stands a candidate representing an American future built on freedom, safety, and equal rights, while the other side is represented by a candidate determined to destroy our country by dismantling it from the inside out. This election challenges us to uphold the values we all share as Americans.
As much as we would like to believe that this election is your typical Democrat vs. Republican, or Liberal vs. Conservative fight, it is not. When I was a child, the Republican party touted politicians like John McCain and George W. Bush. While I did not agree with their policies, I could at least respect them as humans because they ultimately put people above party alliance (see John McCain saves Affordable Care Act).
This election is different. This election is about saving lives. Saving the lives of women, saving the lives of migrants, saving the lives of victims of police brutality, and saving the life of America.
Since the day he announced his first run for President of the United States, it has been proven that Donald Trump is a catastrophic threat to the progress we have made as a country. For the undecided voters- I hope this post, the day before the most important election of our lifetime, is an exhibition proving Kamala Harris is the only choice.
It's still an election based on policy, but this time we are not fighting on the same side of the arena. We are fighting in a world where Donald Trump and his supporters have already repealed Roe v. Wade, filled the courts with biased judges, and used racist rhetoric to incite hate. I refuse to group all Republicans or Conservatives into his support group, but it is your party that has let this person destroy the foundation of personal freedoms our ancestors have built over the past ~150 years. Tomorrow you have the chance to step back, evaluate whether your support lies with the American vision, or with a singular man who has shown he will strip us of the progress we've made as a country, and vote based on the morals you yourself represent.
I do not agree with everything Kamala Harris has proposed, particularly as it relates to Palestine and Israel, but again, this election is between a woman we can trust to maintain the sanctity of the Oval Office, and a man who will actually continue to destroy America nationally and globally.
Below I will show you exactly where Kamala Harris and Donald Trump stand on the key issues that make this an election about morals and saving lives, rather than common sense policy.
2024 Election-
Education
KH- will push for universal prekindergarten, expanded career and technical education, a reduced emphasis on standardized testing, and efforts to improve teachers’ working conditions
Abortion
KH - supports restoring Roe v. Wade, codifying a womans right to bodily autonomy
DT - Eliminated national abortion access by appointing partisan Supreme Court Justices
Race
KH - A graduate of Howard University, and a target of racist rhetoric
DT - The Department of Justice filed the civil suit for “discriminating against black persons in the operation of their buildings”, The Central Park 5, Will carry out mass deportation and fuel racial profiling
LGBTQ Rights
KH - Ordered federal agencies to protect LGBTQ people against discrimination by ensuring that the Supreme Court’s decision in Bostock v. Clayton County, protects employees against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, applied in the contexts of not just employment, but housing, health care, and credit lending.
American Safety
While this is not a comprehensive list of the issues that make this Presidential election the most important of my lifetime so far, they are some of the issues that clearly demonstrate the stark differences in moral ideology.
Thank you for reading this post and for voting. Silence is not an option when lives are on the line.
Tomorrow when you vote, put people over profits, and refuse to send us backwards in history - Kamala Harris for President.
