AHA! I've trapped you again! You now must hear more about an organization that is near and dear to my heart, Grassroots Health-that's where the TNT story begins.
To understand the purpose of nicknames we first have to look at the work Grassroots health does. Over the last 13 years, our team has trained 1800+ NCAA student-athletes as health education facilitators to go into Middle Schools in the Washington D.C. & Philadelphia, PA metro areas and facilitate sports based games that help 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students learn the facts surrounding Sexual Health, Nutrition/Physical health, and Mental Health in their health/PE classes. We've reached more than TEN-THOUSAND students & parents-(Friends & Venture Philanthropists take note🥴 *wink wink cough cough-fundraising season*)
Now that you understand a bit more about the organization I'm sure you can see how some of the topics we cover and conversation we have can be pretty uncomfortable, especially for younger students. What our team learned is that nicknames make everyone feel more comfortable, students & our student-athletes. They allow us to be free from judgement and build safe spaces to ask the most uncomfortable questions and have the most open conversations. Think about it like Beyoncé, everyone has a Sasha Fierce, you just have to discover your name- For me it was Nickelodeon but that didn't feel like my true personality, then it became picNick(but yeah no), & finally it came to me in an explosion of realization-TNT, the bomb diggity 🧨
TNT is who I turn to when it's time to pick myself up by the bootstraps & make some magic happen. Whether it's facilitating a lesson on the fly, tackling my insecurities and fears, or most recently, lighting up my rooftop (and soon the clubs) as a Techno TNT, DnB TNT, & overall-DJ TNT.
This is just the beginning of my story, so thank you for following- Now my question for you: What's your Grassroots nickname? (p.s.-🥴fundraising season - let mne know & I'll get you a shirt)
